You can make it so notifications are silent but calls still ring if you place the phone face down on your bedside table, make it loud with no vibrate when it's face up on the coffee table and vibrate the rest of the time, whatever - it's up to you

Great idea when it is working properly. Unfortunately I have to manually toggle it off and back on every few days when it stops working. HTC Eris
