RecForge Free - Audio Recorder

In 2 words..... .. The Best! The new speed control is a welcome addition, but it needs to be easier to vary around the 1x to 2x range. It would also be better if there was an option to keep the pitch the same whilst the speed was changed. And what's with the American flag being used to represent the English language? Please use the English/ British flag -it's OUR language! ;)

Nag nag nag nag... These jerks have used the latest update to add a page which nags you to give them your personal info, EVERY TIME YOU OPEN THE APP. It won't go away permanently until you submit something. SUGGESTION: submit fake info such as their own address, & tell them to take a hike, or similar ;) in the text entry boxes.

APN Backup & Restore

Adverts were OK! A good app. I had no problem with the adverts being added. The developer has a right to make some money from their app. At least they weren't push notifications (this would have been unforgivable). Oh well, the adverts have gone again, so everyone should be happy now (and grateful).

Read It Later Pro

GRRR... Why no DELETE article option? The most consistently requested feature here, & the most consistently ignored by the developers, is to be able to DELETE SAVED ARTICLES, not just move them to the Read Archive. You get stuck with old articles for the rest of your life, stored in the Archive folder. They deliberately don't allow individual article deletion using the app. Why? Something fishy here. It's too blindingly obvious a function to be an accidental omission by the developers. Could it be to build up a large back-catalogue of what we read, for long-term data mining & selling on to advertisers? Could it be to sell us online storage at a later date, once we've inadvertently accumulated all this storage & realised it might be useful? I find this tactic REALLY ANNOYING, & completely spoils an otherwise good app. I WANT TO DELETE MY DATA, ONCE I HAVE FINISHED WITH IT. GET IT?? The only means of any kind of deletion seems to be via a PC, but even that is a deliberately convoluted process, presumably to dissuade us. No simple option to just Delete All, or Empty. One has to wade through & select all of one's read articles from multiple pages, involving numerous clicks, before deletion is finally allowed. UNFORGIVABLE.

Unwanted Monthly Updates. What is it with these POINTLESS MONTHLY UPDATES of "new" sounds? I doubt that anyone's interested in them. The app is fine as it is. If you have any improvements or bug fixes, let's have them by all means. We are all very grateful for those. But having to replace these stupid new lists all the time is just becoming a major irritation. Please just give us a good variety of the best sounds, once, THEN LEAVE IT AT THAT. Regarding the latest GUI update: the buttons at the bottom of the Motion Sensor are inaccessible due to being covered up by adverts (SGS2). [To NAT : please get a grip, YOURSELF. There is no way to manage the Update list in Android Market. One can't hide updates that one doesn't wish to apply. So as one's list grows longer, it is a right royal P.I.T.A. having to wade through them all, & trying to remember which updates are worthwhile, & which ones are pointless, such as this one. Just wait till your own installed app list grows longer, & you'll see what I mean.]

Good, but lacking. First of all : RICK's comment below... LMAO.. you're a cretin! You like the app, but rate it just 1 star. You criticise Justin's review, but are too stupid to see that he wrote it BEFORE the update, & he WAS correct - the plane banner's text wasn't customisable WHEN HE WROTE HIS REVIEW. Personally, I quite like this app, but find the scene a little uninspiring & lacking enough attractive elements.

Great fun.... ... This is by far the best of the many games I bought at promotional prices. Exhilarating fun to play in short bursts, without complex instructions to remember. Nice graphics. Has worked out as amazing value.

priceline Hotel Negotiator

Getting BETTER, but... STILL NO FIX for the stupid issue of it using $ when in UK. This app badly needs a currency selection option - I won't be using/ struggling with it until this fundamental is sorted out. On the plus side, I am at least finding a reasonable number of sites around the UK now, since a couple of updates ago.

SwiftKey X Keyboard

Worth it just to get rid of Samsung's GS2 keyboard. .. the cretins at Samsung decided we don't need commas or similar, so consigned them to a sub-page. Argh! Nice to have cursor arrows, too. And the predictive features are excellent - it doesn't just try to finish a word as you type it, it is also then very good at guessing your next word as well! For people with issues, these are usually addressed by adjusting the Settings to your own needs.

Spool: Save video & webpages

Needs work. Still quite clunky & needs refining. Examples: Very slow to load opening screen (even though my phone is fast). Then, on this home page, too much screen real estate is lost with those pointless menu bars at the top & bottom (we all have a menu KEY - why not just use that?) And the "View Original" link at the top of saved pages needs to take us to a proper view using our phone's browser - not Spool's own in-app browser which formats the webpage all wrong & misses out half of the info (try it with Spool's example clip from the band "Cut Copy" to see what I mean). When, for example, using it to save articles from the BBC news site for offline reading, it doesn't retain the photos/ graphics, & often incorrectly adds text at the bottom from other articles! The app Read It Later is much better & has no problems in this respect. And why does every article sent to Spool have to then be opened & individually instructed before it will actually download for offline reading? This makes it ridiculous & unusable in its present form.

Fantastic! Great functionality & superb graphics. Many thanks! It's also amusing to see the many cretins here, complaining about the apps accuracy. There are 2 things that they may wish to note : 1) The app first needs to be calibrated against a known, good spirit level (& re-calibrated regularly ) and 2) Unless your phone is at least 50cm long, you are never going to get super-accurate results. GET REAL! And remember that if the phone's edge isn't flat (has protruding buttons etc) then you need to allow for this.

QR Pal - QR & Barcode Scanner

Complex. A bit too over-featured & complex for my needs. I'm not sure why I would want to save & organise a vast collection of scans, let alone share them with everyone else (what is it with this current craze of people feeling the need to broadcast their every thought, event & bowel movement?) Anyway, it looks well laid out & probably useful for some people. Shame it doesn't seem to be able to create the codes, though.

Battery Indicator Pro

Bug-fixed Just in Time! My phone batteries go flat quite rapidly after dropping below 50% charge, so I upgraded to this pro version last week (from the ever-reliable free version) in order to benefit from its low battery alarms & different icon warning colours. First Problem : the red coloured icon can't be set above 30% which is way too low for my needs. The dev's explanation for this is that too many choices of level will increase app size, so it's just unfortunate for me that he chose to provide TOO MANY choices below 30% (25,20,15,10,5) but NONE above 30%. Same problem for the amber icon, which only goes to 50%. I found a work-around for this. Just install the "Classic" plugin, which lets you choose from a wide range of charge levels for the different icon colours. Second Problem : unfortunately, I later discovered that the audible low battery alarms (vital for when my phone display is off) never worked properly while the plugins were being used. Arghh! So I gained nothing by going Pro.....TILL NOW! The latest bug-fix has come in the nick of time. Everything works nicely now, even if I do still have to choose the Plugin mode. Just 1 wish : an option to have the app calc. the usage times instead of me.

Anti-Virus Pro Trial

Infuriating. I just downloaded this app so I could ask this question... WHAT THE HELL IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FREE & THE PAID VERSIONS, & WHY IS IT TOO MUCH TROUBLE FOR YOU TO REVEAL THIS VITAL INFO ANYWHERE IN THE DESCRIPTIONS?

Lacking. Has quite poor functionality. No channel info, so don't know what film one is currently watching, let alone what is coming up next. Can't save favourites. Odd selection of 2nd rate channels, though is better than nothing!

MultiLock TekTrak

Not bad. OK, this app is "hidden" because it doesn't leave an icon in the installed apps folder. But it still shows up with all your other apps in the phone's Settings, Manage Apps menu, & can be uninstalled from there or from here on the Market. Which sort of renders it useless (unless I am missing something?) So to my mind, this app may help confuse & deter the casual phone thief, but anyone a bit more savvy will easily find their way around it. And don't forget, a hard reset of your phone will presumably remove all software & stop any of TekTrak's apps from working. So you guys feeling "safe" now with your new TekTrak apps, should perhaps still try to avoid phone loss at all costs!

UK Aerial Alignment

Very Useful for Installers,Travellers,Holidays... ... or just for 1-off jobs! This is an excellent & well designed app. The latest small issue with v1.5 was quickly fixed within only 1 day when the developer released v1.6. Good work!! (It would still be useful to see the version number within the app itself, perhaps on its "About" page.) For those people, like me, who occasionally find the in-built compass a bit erratic (probably an issue with the phone, not this app) then the app can still be useful if used & aligned with a separate compass, held well away from metal objects & magnetic fields. HEAVY GUNNER 3D

CRASHED & LOCKED UP my phone 10 seconds into the Campaign (a basic, early level) the game froze & locked up my phone, rendering it completely unusable until the battery was taken out. (This didn't seem to happen for me before update). Also in the description "Google Push Notification Available" - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?... AirPush spam to be incorporated, or just something innocuous? - please clarify. Regarding the permissions, just saying "game usage does not acquire personal information" is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Game updates/events should not require access to, for example, info about running apps, since this MAY allow access to private info. This is ONLY A GAME, after all, so let's keep permissions to a minimum please.(SGS2)

AA Restaurant Guide 2012

A GOOD START. Works quite well & provides some useful info. As with the other AA guide apps, this one also unfortunately doesn’t allow any posting of user reviews or ratings, so we have to put total faith in the AA’s own rating system! It’s a shame, therefore, that the rating isn’t shown in the search results list, & it doesn’t appear until one clicks through to each individual entry. Similarly, it would be nice to have an option to Sort order based on ratings (the Sort order currently appears to be only for distance from chosen/ current location). There is a good choice of search Filters, though, for particular cuisine styles. The Vegetarian filter is sadly a little under-designed. It merely seems to include those restaurants which have a veggy option, which nearly all do, nowadays. Better would be for it to filter those which are predominantly veggy, or have Numerous veggy menu choices. Otherwise, it would probably be safer for a veggy to just ring a restaurant before traveling there, to confirm what veggy choices, if any, the restaurant has available on that day. A generally good app, though, & I hope the database will become more extensive.

DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT SHOULD DO. Excellent. It would be better, though, if this didn't require a separate installation & instead installed as part of the main app. It would save time, confusion (for some people) & there would also then be one less icon to fill up my applications panel!

EZCam Speed Camera Detector

QUESTION PLEASE!.... Have other people here found that the £20/yr PocketGPSWorld database offers much of an improvement over the free one from SpeedCameraPOI? Is it much more extensive, & do you think that it justifies the cost? Sadly, it seems to be more than 1.5 yrs since the free database was updated. All answers gratefully received (I’ll check back here regularly!) I'm loving the app so far (I've more real-world testing to do). Best features of any speedcam app I've tried. Requests: give the option to make the speed & radar overlays smaller, so they don’t obscure so much of the screen beneath them (& definitely make their backgrounds less opaque). Also, make the map zoom-able. Also, on the Alerts Settings page, make it less easy to accidentally change the Alert Angle setting whilst scrolling up/down. Also, a better Help page, including info on the differences between the camera types (& is a Fixed Camera a generic term?) And most importantly (work with the webmasters to) allow us to edit/ add cameras to their databases from within your app. This is the best way to encourage people to keep them up-to-date. I also found a few small bugs - emailed to the dev's. (SGS2)

AA Bed & Breakfast Guide 2012

ARGHH!! KIND OF MISSING THE POINT. This app has obviously been designed by extremely rich app developers for their select, extremely rich clients. The rest of us folks, for whom price matters, have bizarrely been left forgotten & un-catered for with this app. Whilst its search results list looks all very pretty, with nice thumbnail photos, PRICES ARE NOT DISPLAYED & the only filter of the results they provide is for Star Ratings. So we are left to click through individually on all of the potentially hundreds of search results, to finally have revealed to us what the actual cost is to stay at each of the locations. Come on AA, include prices in the results list & give us a Sort Order for Price. If this gets sorted out, the app may be half decent. The info within each sub-page is OK, & it's good to have a proper AA star rating for the accommodation. And unlike the previous reviewer, I found that the app functioned without problem on my phone (SGS2).

Google Authenticator

TOO COMPLEX & UNUSEABLE. The idea behind this app is a good one, considering how much damage can otherwise be done to one's Google accounts & finances if, for example, one's mobile phone were to fall into the wrong hands (why phone's don't incorporate better security as standard, I just don't know). However, I found it unusable. The basics of setup & operation are easy enough. The problems start when one tries to build robust security between all devices (PCs, phones etc) & software/ apps. Then the complexities of the problem, & potential weaknesses in security start to kick in. Just as one example, I registered my mobile phone for 2-step authentication -no problem. But the apps within my phone which need to access Google Accounts (such as G Docs) need to use Application-Specific Passwords (since they can't use 2-step). These need to be re-generated each time the apps synchronise if they don't store passwords. But this Authenticator app can't do that. You have to use eg. your home computer for that. Totally impractical. There may be other solutions, but the whole system has become too much of a headache for me to figure out now. (Ignore Matt's puerile comment)

FOR THOSE HAVING PROBLEMS accessing the... ...Levels Pack, you need to remember to OPEN the Levels Pack at least once after downloading it, before it can be uninstalled. It is only once it is first opened, that it actually gets copied from RAM to your SD card. Otherwise, this main game app can't find it because it only looks for the Levels Pack on your SD card, not in RAM. Remember to uninstall the Levels Pack after copying it to SD card, to free up your RAM! As to the game - I love it! Shame it doesn't get much updating, because now other developers have taken its "physics" ideas & made more visually impressive games for our current crop of more powerful phones & tablets. That being said, sometimes simpler is better! [to Brandon & Gaurav : you CAN erase. Just double-tap on the object to erase]

Is this really FREE? Nowhere in the description or on the website (without signing up) is there any mention of costs. BUT it is hinted at, with "sign up now for 50 complimentary credits". What's the deal here? The developers should be up-front & honest, if one will need to pay out in order to keep using the service.

Airpush Permanent Opt-out

USE "ADDONS DETECTOR" APP INSTEAD..... ....Then find & uninstall all apps which use push-notifications like Airpush (which forces adverts onto our notification bar EVEN WHEN THE APP ISN'T RUNNING – ruining the whole Android experience) But before uninstalling the crap-ware, remember to give it a bad rating & a warning comment to alert other users, then FLAG THE APPS AS “INAPPROPRIATE, OTHER”. Let's put Airpush & their slimey associates out of business!
