SwipePad: Hyperspace Jump

Nice idea, but... It's a nice idea but isn't working well in practice. Between laggy response and hard to hit target areas, getting the menu to pop up can be an exercise in frustration.

Remotix - VNC viewer

used to be good It used to be a good viewer and I used to give it 4 stars. But since the latest update, ssh authentication doesn't work anymore for me, making the viewer useless. There has been no response from support and no way of debugging this. This is from an ICS Transformer to several Linux systems.

Google Docs

limited functionality, not even device download The application is OK for viewing Google documents, but editing is very limited. Given the power of Android tablets, this is quite silly. The app doesn't even support sending documents to other apps. There is no really good solution for editing Google Docs on tablets right now. Come on, Google, fix this, this is your core business.

WidgetPad

disappointing SwipeIt is a great app in general, but WidgetPad is very limited in what it can do. All it provides is the ability to add shortcuts to the launcher that will then pop up the widget. What it should do is allow the user to add the widget directly into the pad itself.

FlexT9 Speak-Trace-Write-Tap

very good now This is probably the best "Swype-like" keyboard on the market right now (it used to be a bit flaky and slow, but that's been fixed). It has the best correction and recognition compared to all the others. The only downside is that there is almost no manual control: you can't turn off autocorrect (although you can "work around it"), and you can't easily manually switch between languages. I don't use the handwriting recognition or speech recognition, and would prefer if they weren't part of the keyboard to save some space.

Android SMEStorage

not a local sync option The app requires signing up for an SME Storage account, raising questions about privacy and security. It is not an app that just syncs your files between the cloud and your local disk.

Youtube Stream

nice functionality, ugly as sin and buggy The app has some nice functionality, but it is ugly as sin, slow, and violates Android UI conventions. Doesn't respect auto-rotation. Hangs and crashes. I hope this app will be rewritten to be more reliable and easier to use.

Pocket Casts

decent, needs sync The big plus of this app is its nice user interface. Otherwise, it seems to be an Apple port of mediocre quality: it crashes occasionally, OPML imports aren't working reliably, and the sharing menu is limited to Mail and Twitter. It doesn't sync with Google Reader, and even import from Reader didn't work for me either. (I tried this on two devices.)

Taskie (Gesture Task Manager)

nice start, but needs more work This is a nice start, but the user interface needs more work. On my phone, I don't get a visual feedback of the app that is coming in, making it kind of guesswork of what one is switching to. Vibrate should be turned off by default as well. A better UI would be to zoom out a little and show a bit of the app to the left and the right of the current one.

Screebl - Get Your Screen On!

Doesn't do anything For normal settings, indicator never changes.

SIM contacts manager

works fine, but limited The app works fine for me: I can add, remove, and edit contacts and numbers. However, it works on the SIM data only; there is no ability to import/export from the regular phonebook. For that, you need a separate app.

by tmb the 7/17/2011
AutomateIt Pro

very limited selection of triggers and actions compared to other, similar programs

by tmb the 6/23/2011
Birthday Tracker

decent but needs work It's decent and gets the job done. However, there are some limitations: it crashes every now and then, syncing isn't acknowledged, contacts don't indicate where they are synced from, and (most annoyingly) many of my contacts show up as 2 years old.

by tmb the 6/17/2011
BorrowBuddy

It's OK, but I really would want sync with google spreadsheets

by tmb the 6/17/2011
Borrow Mate

Nice idea, but hard to use. Items show up multiple times in list. No clear confirmation when things are added.

by tmb the 5/7/2011
Eye-Fi

Potentially nice functionality, but pairing and setting up transfers is confusing.

by tmb the 5/6/2011
Easy Peasy Alarm Widget Full

Finally a decent alarm clock. Easy to set, easy to check.

by tmb the 5/1/2011
HappyCow VeginOut Guide FULL

finds no results, bad error messages Doesn't find any results in my area (in Germany). Error messages don't let me determine whether that's because it doesn't understand the location or because there are none. Another apps has a map view and actually does find restaurants.

Speed Dial

useful It's useful for its "mail to" shortcut capability. Many of the other functions seem to be duplicates of built-in functionality.

by tmb the 4/30/2011
SSHDroidPro

excellent Works as advertised. Very useful for moving data to/from phone.

by tmb the 4/30/2011
Qype

useful for Germany Qype is useful in Germany (better than Yelp in Germany), but its coverage for other countries isn't so good.

by tmb the 4/27/2011
ZAGAT for Android

Promising, but crashes frequently. Poor coverage for Germany.

by tmb the 4/22/2011
KLM

I will never fly KLM again. The company and its service are atrocious.

by tmb the 4/20/2011
Launch-X Pro

Bit complicated for what it does, cumbersome ui. Nice looking widgets.

by tmb the 4/19/2011
WebSharing File/Media Sync

useful Useful for browsing and file transfer. However, it should support drag-and-drop between the browser and the desktop.

by tmb the 3/29/2011
More Icons Widget

Couldn't get it to work. Never popped up anything when pushing the icon.

by tmb the 3/28/2011
Headset Button Controller

very useful A very useful little utility.

by tmb the 3/14/2011
On the Town

Shortcut to their web site. Needs next day button. Event category selection unintuitive. Event coverage is spotty, but still useful.

by tmb the 1/20/2011
InstaFetch PRO

Still keeps crashing all the time. Never syncs. Useless. Htc desire.

by tmb the 1/15/2011
Phone Stats private browser

looks promising, but doesn't work full screen on galaxy tab

by tmb the 1/14/2011
BetterCut

I don't find this to be enhanced over any cut. Weird ui.

by tmb the 12/29/2010
Ustream Broadcaster

Doesn't work on x10 mini. No broadcast, force close after a while.

by tmb the 12/26/2010
AG German Newspapers PRO

cumbersome configuration. needs quick way of cutting down default subscriptions. needs to support copy text in article view.

by tmb the 10/21/2010
Hard Copy Pro (Ad-Free)

Now syncs something, but still force closes frequently. Galaxy Tab.

by tmb the 10/17/2010
RSS Atom News Reader Elite

It has a lot of capabilities, but I find the user interface somewhat unintuitive and a bit cumbersome.

by tmb the 10/17/2010
PicGet(Wallpaper Search)

It's a good start, but it really needs to provide more control over what is downloaded and where it is stored.

by tmb the 10/17/2010
Retain -Offline webpage reader

Very useful app and it's free. Needs to be adapted to bigger screen sizes. Sd storage option would also be important.

by tmb the 10/16/2010
Remote VNC Pro

Needs encryption with ssh, more encoding options. As is, it is barely useful for me.

by tmb the 9/24/2010
DB Navigator

Moderately useful shortcut to the German rail system schedule. UI could stand some improvement

by tmb the 6/27/2010
InstaFetch Lite

Tried both regular and pro. Never download any items. No help. Junk.

by tmb the 6/15/2010
FastReader (for Google Reader)

Not working for me

by tmb the 5/2/2010
MobileWrite

Good start, but sluggish and it uses up a lot of screen space. Not really all that useful as is.

by tmb the 4/12/2010
My Task Q

Doesnt seem to sync with google tasks.

by tmb the 2/2/2010
Night Stand

Not really much better than the built in alarm. Would be better if it had simpler way of setting alarm like iPhone alarms (two big wheels)

by tmb the 12/4/2009
GymBook Fitness & Workout Log

Unnecessarily complex ui and poorly chosen components make data entry a chore.
