PSA: Please Don’t Pay $80 For A Nook Color SD Card That Runs Honeycomb
I have a Nook Color and I have had loads of fun modding it. From basic rooting to Froyo, CM7, and Honeycomb, there are several options available now for those wanting to transform it from a tablet-esque eReader into a $250 entry level Android tablet. These operations range from simple to somewhat advanced, so I understand that some people are going to be a little intimidated by the prospect of hacking an expensive device. Naturally some might rather ask a more experienced tinkerer to do the j...

Google using new APIs to attempt to remedy Android fragmentation
Recently, Google released a tool for developers that – hopefully – will deal with the fragmentation issues that Android just can’t seem to get around. The new API (application programming interface), dubbed “Fragments API”, is available for developers on Honeycomb. The API allows developers to do things like scale their apps properly depending on device, ...

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc – Camera Auto-Focus [Video]
For those people that have been waiting to getting their hands on the Xperia Arc, this should be a nice little teaser. While auto-focus on a camera isn’t some kind of new amazing feature, you’ll be hard pressed to find a phone that can do it this well while shooting video. As you’ll see in ...

Motorola Offering $100 Off Xoom
Although this may not be as great as the 25% promotion Motorola ran on it’s products during the Superbowl, it’s at least something. Regardless whether it’s $200 off or $100 off any kind of discount is better than none at all. The new promo code is “motoxoom” that can be taken advantage of via Motorola’s ...

Apple Haters Take Note: Conan O’Brien Just Eviscerated The iPad 2
Okay, so maybe this doesn’t directly relate to Android, but man, do we think some Android fans are going to like this one. With all respect to Apple, most of us are familiar with their promotional videos which can be a little, let’s say, "predictable" at times. Beloved late night host Conan O’Brien created this mock iPad 2 video that… well, let’s just let the clip speak for itself:Source: Team CocoOfficial Android Police t-shirts are now on sale, with ove...

The Door To More Tablet Apps Is Now Open: Fragments API Is Available For Nearly All Android Versions
A new Application Programming Interface (API) called Fragments has been opened to all 1.6+ versions of Android. If you have no clue what that means, this should have the effect of making many more apps tablet-friendly on tablets and phone-friendly on phones. At the core of Fragment’s API is the multi-panel user interface that you see on certain tablet email apps, for example (labels in left panel, inbox in right panel). The ability to use this layout this will now be integrated into a va...

First Look at the HTC Flyer in Video
Carrypad.com posted a video this week with a look at the upcoming Android powered HTC Flyer. You know, the tablet that HTC has not been working on. There are some interesting demonstrations of the stylus that is included with the unit, and the palm rejection feature built into it. They also put it up against the Galaxy Tab. The video is talking about the fact that the Flyer is being released in April overseas with Vodaphone. First Look at the HTC Flyer in Video originally appeared on Andr...

Amazon App Store’s DRM To Be More Restrictive Than Google’s?
An interesting little tidbit came across to us in an otherwise ordinary posting on Amazon’s app developers’ blog. It appears that Amazon will require Digital Rights Management at all times in order to use their apps, not allowing any opting out (as Google currently allows developers to do).Comparing it to the way Amazon currently handles the storing of Kindle books, the curious part of the post reads:"Any app that has Amazon DRM applied to it will require users to have install...

Sam’s Club prices WiFI-only Motorola XOOM at $539
If the $800 Motorola XOOM from Verizon sounds a bit steep, you might want to reconsider what you really need. If you really don’t want a 3G/4G equipped Android tablet or don’t want to pay for an extra data plan, you might be interested in knowing that Sam’s Club has plans to offer the WiFi-only version of the Motorola XOOM for a mere $539.
For anyone wondering how the price compares to the new iPad 2, its $60 cheaper than the 32 GB model. We still have no clue as to when Motorola plans on ...

[Video] New HTC Flyer Hands-on Shows Stylus’ "Palm Rejection" In Action
HTC took some flak by some during Mobile World Conference for showcasing a 7", single core, Gingerbread running tablet while all the other big dogs were fighting over who has the best 10", dual-core, Honeycomb-running monster. With the tablet market looking more and more like it will soon be the iPad 2 vs. three nearly identical Android competitors, I find HTC’s decision to go in an entirely different direction refreshing and was therefore curious about Carrypad’s recent h...
